Abstract

Sassanian silver objects (226-651 AD) have been subjected to a number of technical studies in recent years. This piece summarizes extensive work done at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, full publication of which is in progress. It covers the origin and smelting of the silver, manufacturing methods, and the question of forgery detection.
