Abstract

International standards organizations have actively investigated the problem of heterogeneous system interconnection. This has resulted in the Open System Interconnection (OSI) model. This model is now well structured and its use widely accepted. The International Standards Organization (ISO), which started and worked out this model primarily for data communication needs, has now established close communication and co-operation with the telecommunication world and particularly with the International Consultative Committee for Telephone and Telegraph (CCITT). Most relevant ISO standards have been adopted by the CCITT for telematic services and data transmission needs in the X.200 Series Recommendations. © 1990 IEEE
