The Zambesi Will Work For Southern Africa.

by Henry Olivier
South Africa International ()

Abstract

To utilize the water resources in the Zambesi river, three dams are constructed: the Kafue dam (the Kafue is a tributary of the Zambesi) and the Kariba dam in Zambia, and the Cabora Bassa dam in Mozambique (under construction). The functions of these projects are: to provide large blocks of electric power - to prevent flooding of the lowlands - to make possible irrigation farming - to promote industrial activities. The A. foresees the linking of Southern African territories in one power transmission grid. Notably South Africa, which is a water scarce country, will take advantage of this development. Table.
