Data on theoretical and experimental investigations of the structure of thin liquid layers between solid surfaces is reviewed. It is shown that the physical properties of thin layers (density, viscosity) are dependent both on the system characteristic size and the energy of interaction between a liquid and a solid surface. The results of studying the water structure in fine hydrophilic and hydrophobic pores and capillaries with different physical techniques are discussed. The data on simulation of the liquid structure using Monte Carlo methods and molecular dynamics are given.
