Cliniques Universitaires St-Luc, Brussels, Belgium : 00207594 English Discusses the recent decline of classic anatomical approaches in neuropsychology and the correlative emergence of cognitive psychology. Recent research has emphasized (1) the functional differences of the hemispheres and (2) attempts to employ pathological data to construct models conceptualizing normal functioning as an organization of specific mental processes. Hemispheric specialization is concerned with processes as complex as reading, mental imagery, attention, goal setting, and emotion. The 2nd trend is based on the belief that pathological behavior is often the result of a malfunction in only one of the higher mental processes.
