Abstract

This review highlights the major developments in travel medicine over the past year. Malaria chemoprophylaxis and the problems associated with drug-resistant malaria are reviewed briefly, but are more extensively covered in the section on malaria. New approaches to the management of travellers' diarrhoea and chronic diarrhoea in the returning traveller are discussed. Recent Ebola, leptospirosis and dengue outbreaks are described, and unique infectious diseases facing American troops in Desert Storm and travellers to Southeast Asia are reviewed.
