Uma nota sobre o trade-off entre conflito e comércio em São Vicente e Pernambuco nos primórdios do Brasil
Revista de Economia e Administração (2003)
Abstract
São Vicente and Pernambuco are viewed in the economic history of Brazil as the only examples of successful colonization experiments in earlier Brazil (1534-49). However, practically no attempt has been made to explain the paradox one observes when it is recognized that both represent two distinct private strategies of colonization. This paper shows that it is possible to understand the apparent paradox using a simple economic model in which property rights emerge from rational action under a choice between conflict and trade.
