Abstract
Background. The rescue system is an indispensable part of medical treatment. The aim of this survey was to make a collation of adverse events in the rescue system.Methods. A written questionnaire was sent out to doctors and paramedics involved in emergency services in the catchment area of Lower Bavaria/Upper Palatinate.Results. Adverse events mostly resulted in the context of cooperation, treatment with drugs or lacking technical equipment.Conclusions. Adverse events might be avoidable through improvement of training, strengthening of team structures or cooperation with emergency physicians. Optimizing human resources and not only focusing on continuous investment in technical equipment should be the lessons learned. Copyright © Springer-Verlag 2010.
