Abstract

Investigations have been carried out concerning the deodorization ofveal-calves wastes by surface aeration. A preliminary study was necessary in order to establish data about qualitative and quantitative analysis of the wastes. This was to determine: 1. (1) the quantity of waste per animal per day as a function of the live weight; 2. (2) the average of produced waste, in a fattening house with stalls, including washing water; 3. (3) the composition of the effluent waste of the building (fertilizing value, pollution level and bacterial flora). An Alfa-Laval Centrirator was chosen for the deodorization. Complete specifications are given for the aeration, besides results of the fertilizing value and pollution level. In conclusion it appears that veal-calves wastes have a small fertilizing value and a relatively large pollution level. The Centrirator proved to be a good tool for decreasing the odour intensity of veal-calves wastes. © 1977.
