Abstract

For the potassium trimer an electronic state around 800 nm is observed for the first time by femtosecond real-time three photon ionization (3PI) spectroscopy. The recorded temporal evolution of the one color 3PI signal presents an oscillatory structure with a dominant period of ≅ 450 fs. It is caused by three frequencies (64, 82, 108 cm-1) as calculated by a Fourier analysis. We interpret the frequencies as normal modes of the trimer's ground and excited state.
