Although constructivist social studies teaching requires students to be involved in activities that incorporated in real life experiences, it seems that the current social studies education in TUR does not go much beyond teaching content knowledge stated in the textbooks and curriculum. Not being able to have students to get involved in real life experiences within or outside of social studies classroom not only may keep students away from the social reality of life but also it contradicts the constructivist social studies teaching approach. Initially social studies education proposed to prepare students for real life while it seems that this aspect of social studies education is not at the desired level in TUR. Thus, the purpose of the presentation is to provide example of teaching activities that resemblance of real life experiences in social studies education classes from Germany, United States, and Japan. It is planned to introduce examples of teaching activities that resemble real life experiences from these countries by presenting photos and/or other visuals and discuss how it is possible to get student involved in these nonfictional activities.
