You will work as a member of the Technical Services Centre to provide flexible assistance for the Schools' research and teaching laboratories to include maintaining liquid nitrogen levels in the long term liquid nitrogen stores, moving and changing gas cylinders, removing hazardous and other waste from the laboratories, housekeeping the tissue culture labs and moving equipment and furniture. You will be aware of health and safety requirements and deal with or raise any issues as appropriate.

You will be educated to A level standard or equivalent and have excellent inter-personal and customer service skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. A good understanding of how to handle potentially hazardous materials and equipment safely would be desirable, however, specific training will be provided where necessary.

This role will require the post holder to work flexibly across a number of different areas within the School's four sites when required. Job DescriptionJOB PURPOSE

To provide flexible assistance across the technical services and other support teams including but not limited to: preparation areas, Stores, glasshouses, controlled environment areas and workshop; and to assist the technical managers providing support for the Schools' research and teaching laboratories across all four locations. Additional duties undertaken will include maintaining liquid nitrogen levels in the long term liquid nitrogen stores, moving and changing gas cylinders, removing hazardous and other waste from the laboratories, housekeeping the tissue culture labs and moving equipment and furniture. The role-holder will undertake a range of important support tasks for the Schools' research and teaching communities.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provide flexible support to the School communities and particularly to the Technical Support Managers and Senior Support Technicians, by carrying out some or all of the following tasks:

To assist the School's technical managers/other managers with departmental duties as required - this will involve manual handling (e.g. moving furniture and equipment, cleaning filters on high specification equipment and freezers, daily checking of freezer temperatures etc.) and will include regular assistance at the Wellesbourne and CSRL campuses.

3. To assist in/with the Stores at all sites as necessary. The post-holder may occasionally be expected to cover stores on their own for brief periods.

4. Transport waste and deliveries between locations.

5. To be responsible for maintaining liquid nitrogen levels in liquid nitrogen long term storage tanks.

6. To maintain the salt level and water quality for the BMRI's water supply.

7. To assist in the Preparation Areas and to be responsible for the appropriate autoclaving, removal and disposal of hazardous and other waste from the laboratories.

8. Maintain records for the duties performed, including for sterilisation processes, H&S and COSHH, in line with local procedures.

9. To be responsible for the movement and replacement of gas cylinders. To inspect all locations and ensure that the regulator and lines meet with current legislation. Training will be provided.

10. To be aware of health and safety requirements and deal with or raise any issues as appropriate.
