Postdoctoral positions available at Professor Xingming Zhao’s group, ISTBI, Fudan University 

Professor Xingming Zhao’s group is looking for 5-6 postdoctoral fellows in the fields of machine learning, image processing, bioinformatics and systems biology. The Zhao group is a multi-disciplinary group of researchers from various background, including maths, computer science, biomedical engineering, and biology. The main research areas of the Zhao group include network-based drug predicting and repurposing, brain-gut axis (gut microbiome), brain imaging genetics, and the noncoding genome in brain disorders. The Zhao group also has extensive experience in developing bioinformatics tools and databases.

Requirements

  1. Ph.D. candidates, or within 3 years of graduation as a Ph.D., majoring in computer science, automation, mathematics, bioinformatics, integrative biology, biomedical engineering, or other related subjects
  2. Preferrably with experiences in brain image processing, deep learning, metagenomics analysis, genome and transcriptome analysis, or other related topics
  3. Proficiency with at least one of the commonly used programming languages, for example Python, R, Matlab, JAVA, C++, etc.
  4. With one or more first/co-first author research papers published in academic journals in relevant fields
  5. Ability to carry out a research project independently or with limited instructions
  6. Strong English writing and communication skills, and team work spirit

Xingming Zhao, Professor/Fudan University, China

Xing-Ming Zhao is a professor at the Institute of Science and Technology for Brain-Inspired Intelligence (ISTBI), Fudan University, China. He is a Senior Member of IEEE, Co-Chair of IEEE SMC Technical Committee on Systems Biology, vice Chair of ACM SIGBio China, and member of IAPR Technical Committee on Pattern Recognition for Bioinformatics. His research focuses on data mining and bioinformatics. He has published more than 80 peer-reviewed journal papers. He is also the lead guest editor and editor member of several journals, e.g. IEEE/ACM TCBB, Neurocomputing, Journal of Theoretical Biology, IET Systems Biology, and so on.

 

Peer BorkFudan University Honorary Professor, EMBL Senior Scientist

Peer Bork, Strategic Head of Bioinformatics at EMBL Heidelberg since 2011, group leader in the Molecular Medicine Partnership Unit, and ERC Advanced Investigator. He has lead a number of internationally renowned genome and metagenome projects, including the Human Genome Project, Mouse Genome Project, Yeast Proteome Project, MetaHit, Human Microbe Project and Tara Ocean Project and so on. He has published more than 600 journal papers, with over 70 of them published in top journals such as Cell, Nature and Science.

 

Luis Pedro Coelho, Young PI /Fudan University, China

Luis Pedro Coelho is a Young PI working on biological problems that can be approached with Big Data methodologies. In particular, he focuses on microbial community analysis using metagenomics and the analysis of fluorescence microscopy images. Previously, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher in Peer Bork's group at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL). He has a PhD from Carnegie Mellon University where he worked under the supervision of Prof. Bob Murphy and a MSc from Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon, where he worked with Prof Arlindo Oliveira. Luis is a Fulbright Scholar, a Siebel Scholar, and has won multiple awards for academic and research excellence.

Jingqi Chen, Young PI /Fudan University, China

Dr Chen graduated from Fudan university with a Ph.D. degree in bioinformatics, supervised by Professor Weidong Tian. She did her postdoctoral training with the Professor Steven E. Brenner, at the University of California, Berkeley. Dr Chen joined ISTBI, Fudan since Janurary, 2019. Dr Chen mainly studies the roles of the noncoding genome in neurological and psychiatric disorders, by integrating multi-omics data and brain imaging. Dr Chen is also interested in the genome interpretation and molecular diagnosis of brain-related diseases through whole-genome sequencing.
