The University of Liverpool is a Russell Group 'red brick' university and is seeking to appoint an experienced building services engineer to take up the role of Head of Engineering and Maintenance Operations. This is an exciting opportunity to lead on the operational delivery of engineering and maintenance on a complex and diverse estate located in and around Liverpool and the Wirral. The estate contains buildings from 1820 to present day, and they range from heritage buildings of architectural importance to complex science, medical, and engineering facilities. Candidates will have a degree (or equivalent qualification or relevant professional experience), a track record of successfully managing the operational delivery of customer focussed maintenance services within large dynamic organisations and must show evidence of strong leadership, excellent relationship skills and the drive to continuously improve the service offer. You will be expected to facilitate impact beyond your own immediate area of expertise and foster effective relationships for the department across the University and able to develop a positive national profile.

Reporting to the Director of Estates Management, you will provide operational leadership and expertise for all engineering, building services and building fabric maintenance including PPM, reactive maintenance, statutory compliance and life cycle renewal projects. You will lead on the delivery and continued improvement of the maintenance service, using systems thinking methodology and working with colleagues in the estates planning and capital projects teams, to influence project designs. The focus of the role will be on delivering an effective and efficient maintenance service to the whole of the University estate, through directly employed maintenance teams and specialist contractors and consultants.

You will have extensive experience of managing a complex multi-disciplinary maintenance service, serving an extensive and heavily serviced estate, and either be a chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Building Services (CIBSE) or working towards chartered membership. You will also be able to provide evidence of the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders so as to optimise customer experience and support the successful delivery of the service.
