To support this programme, the Department of Strategy, Management and Marketing has an exciting opportunity for a Lecture in Management, specialising in events and sports management, to join our team.

You will build on our success for student satisfaction, as well as our strong links with employers and professional bodies such as the Chartered Management Institute. You will have teaching experience having developed and delivered undergraduate and/or postgraduate modules. You will be joining a diverse team focused on delivering excellent student experience through research-informed teaching and you will have a Doctorate level qualification.

For this role, we are seeking applicants with teaching experience across both Event Management and Sport Management in the specific areas of analytics, innovation, new technologies, operations and experience management. Priority will be given to shortlisting candidates with these areas of expertise. Applicants who have practice-based experience of eSports will also be considered.

Main Duties / Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Develop their own teaching materials and ensuring that module design and delivery comply with quality standards and regulations of the University.
  • As module leader or course leader, co-ordinate with others (such as support staff or academic colleagues) to ensure student needs and expectations are met.
  • Lead and teach modules as a member of the team in a variety of settings from small group tutorials to large lectures.
  • Supervise student projects and the academic elements of field trips, and, where appropriate, placements.
  • Be responsible for pastoral care of students within a specified area.
  • Ensure the efficient delivery of teaching courses in accordance with the University's strategy, policy and procedures.
  • Set and mark assessments and provide constructive feedback to students.
  • Seek ways of improving performance by reflecting on teaching design and delivery and obtaining and analysing feedback.
  • Conduct high quality research leading to publications in reputable journals and conference proceedings, and to develop bids and partnerships for research funding.
  • Participate in and develop external networks, for example, to contribute to student recruitment, secure student placements, facilitate outreach work, generate income, obtain consultancy projects or build relationships for future activities.
  • Be responsible for administrative duties in areas such as admissions, examinations, assessment of progress and student attendance

We would expect the post holder to have the following experience, qualifications and skills:


  • Hold a doctorate level qualification in a related management discipline, or be close to completion.
  • Teaching qualification or preparedness to work towards.
  • Sufficient breadth or depth of specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop teaching programmes and the provision of learning support.
  • Knowledge of higher education and ability to use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students.
  • The potential to produce, both individually and collaboratively, REF outputs.
  • In-depth understanding of own specialism to enable the development of new knowledge and understanding within the field.
  • Have demonstrated sound pastoral, teaching and module leadership in higher education, enabling students to apply theory into practice.
  • Excellent team working and communication skills.
  • Able to demonstrate independent and self-managing working styles.


  • Have a record of research and research publications.
  • Have practice based experience in their area of specialism
  • Ability to attract research funding and partnering across their areas of practice.
  • Display a thirst for knowledge and academic learning in the context of real world challenges and a strong desire to see their theoretical work in solving impactful problems.
