To support this programme, the Department of Strategy, Management and Marketing has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Lecturer in Management, specialising in Hospitality, to join our growing team.

You will build on our success for student satisfaction, as well as our strong links with employers and professional bodies. You will have significant teaching experience having developed and delivered undergraduate and/or postgraduate modules. You will be joining a diverse team focused on delivering excellent student experience through research-informed teaching and you will have a Doctorate level qualification.

Area of Expertise

For this role, we are seeking applicants with teaching experience primarily in Hospitality Management, covering areas such as revenue management and rooms division management. Priority will be given to shortlisting candidates with these areas of expertise.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be:

  • Responsible for managing taught programmes, including oversight of day to day operational processes (e.g. timetabling, assessment, examination systems) and programme accreditation processes.
  • Teach a range of materials and develop and apply innovative and appropriate teaching techniques and material which create interest, understanding and enthusiasm amongst students.
  • Oversee the monitoring of student progress and provide advice and guidance to personal tutors and students as appropriate
  • Undertake and contribute to research and research funding, conducting individual research or collaborating with others to produce high quality outputs with demonstrable impact, in particular influencing leading edge practice.
  • Provide academic leadership to those working within programme areas to ensure programmes are delivered effectively or organising the work of a team by agreeing objectives and work plans.
  • Contribute to the overall management of the School / Faculty in areas such as resource management, business and programme planning. Undertake line management responsibilities as required.
  • Be involved in School / Faculty level strategic planning and contribute to the University's strategic planning process.
  • Lead and develop internal and external networks, including international partnerships
  • Be responsible for administrative duties in areas such as admissions, examinations, assessment of progress and student attendance.


Skills and Experience

We would expect the post holder to have the following knowledge and skills:

Essential

  • Depth or breadth of specialist knowledge demonstrated by a doctorate level qualification, usually a PhD, in order to teach and support learning on academic modules within higher education.
  • In depth understanding of own specialism to enable the development of new knowledge and understanding within the field with external recognition as a scholar and teacher.
  • Experience of teaching curriculum development and quality management and enhancement in an HE environment.
  • Experience of managing a team and/or functions in a busy environment with conflicting priorities.
  • Evidence of high quality publications in internationally recognised business and management journals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A strategic thinker, able to demonstrate independent and self-managing work styles whilst able to plan and prioritise workload and that of others
  • Demonstrates strong student-centric approach to ways of working and commitment to high quality standards

Desirable

  • Experience of grant capture and of managing research projects, teams, and preferably experience of acting as a principal investigator.
