Job description

This P ost-doc project is funded by the Swedish Research Council (VR). The objective of this challenging basic research project is to develop a novel acoustic holography formulation to identify and quantify sound sources with a single array of microphones in the presence of scattering from reflecting surfaces position with an arbitrary orientation with respect to the array. There are no acoustic holography methods capable of accurately identifying acoustic sources in these conditions, since all reported methods relay on the use of two arrays of microphones.

We have recently introduced a new formulation, which allows us to accurately identify sound sources with a single array of microphones in the presence of a partially reflective surface parallel to the plane of the array. In this fundamental project we will push the limits of acoustic holography further by including partially reflective surfaces with arbitrary orientations with respect to the plane of the array in the formulation and, therefore enabling acoustic source identification in complex acoustic environments.

The methods in this project allow for studying sound generation mechanisms due to contact interaction such as tyre/road and wheel/rail contact. Also it open e d the possibility for in-situ measurements of machinery like the supports of air conditioning units or the mountings of ship engines. Understanding the main contributions to the radiated sound in these applications is essential for the design of noise reduction measures and, therefore, a better environment.

The employment is 2 years. Up to 2 0 percent department duties are included in the employment.


We are looking for a candidate with a doctoral education (completed in the last three years) in Engineering Acoustics, preferably in array technologies.
