The Opportunity | Manager, Purchasing

Plans and implements activities related to the procurement of materials, parts, components, and equipment. Directs the activities of buyers and expediters to maximize effectiveness, compliance, and management of the strategic and tactical sourcing functions. Reviews and approves purchases up to a specified dollar amount. May negotiate major contracts involving large dollar amounts. Develops policies and procedures for the operation of procurement activities. Monitors the cost, schedule and performance aspects of major subcontracts. Coordinates purchasing activities with engineering and manufacturing departments to maintain inventories at planned levels, incoming and outgoing material flow, project timing, sample, approval and validation, and vendor approval status. May assist with the establishment and maintenance of the production control system. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function. Reviews material and deliverables with suppliers to drive supplier improvement in all areas of the business as it effects Curtiss Wright, which may include PDR, CDR, design reviews, Quality and On Time Delivery improvement and cost reductions. (Up to 50% travel)

* Acts as liaison with program management, material control, quality assurance, and engineering.
* Assures that all information/data and priorities/critical items from the Purchasing department interfacing groups are received, processed, and integrated into the purchasing function.
* Researches and develops new sources of supply and keeps informed of new products, manufacturing processes, and price trends.
* Develops a system to evaluate vendor quotations that utilizes appropriate negotiation and purchasing techniques to ensure quality, price, delivery, and service. Designs, implements, manages, and monitors procurement reporting systems to meet company requirements and develops measurable delivery performance measures.
* Recruits and maintains suppliers that provide high quality products and services at a better price while maintaining the highest code of ethics and conduct. Negotiates or supervises the negotiation of complex requests for equipment, supplies, and services from suppliers and subcontractors.
* Provides onsite analysis of suppliers' performance and establishes plans to improve their business performance.


* Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain or Business Management
* 4-5 years related supply chain / procurement experience in a manufacturing environment. Prior supervisory/management experience.
* Strong oral and written communication skills with knowledge of MS Office.
* Direct leadership, strong interpersonal skills, ability to lead and manage diverse global team, demonstrated strong strategic thinking, high level of analytical skills.
* Must be financially literate with negotiation skills, export/import awareness, and distribution and packaging awareness.
