General Position Summary:

Curtiss-Wright has a new position for a Senior Design Engineer leading mechanical development work, problem resolution and design of the mechanical aspects of brand new cutting-edge power electronics products and their related component technologies and processes. Though not a supervisory position, the Senior Design Engineer will provide engineering assistance and consultation to other engineers and the cross-functional departments on technical matters.

Responsibilities:

* Effectively manages, supports and coordinates mechanical aspects of power electronics projects, with minimal guidance from Engineering Manager and other Senior/lead engineers. Conceives and develops new products, material applications, and processes to meet objectives of management and customers with or without customer specifications. Performs on-going conceptual and detailed design, design review and engineering analysis in support of New Product Introduction (NPI) projects. Ensures all objectives regarding aesthetics, functionality, specifications, and manufacturability are met through extensive reviews with the cross-functional team. Oversees the use of appropriate modeling and concept visualization techniques in keeping with data and client evaluations. Assures that engineering support of new products meet quality, governmental and customer specifications and is current with industry best practice. Develops test plans to meet customer requirements and mitigate risks found in DFMEA reviews.
* Visits customers with sales or engineering management personnel on an assigned basis to ensure that products meets customer requirements. Recommends design approaches and solutions to technical problems affecting customers on routine matters and obtains assistance from peers, other departments and engineering management on critical issues. Interfaces directly with customer engineering in the design of new components and assemblies. When appropriate and as requested, works closely with clients to modify the packaging of power electronics products to meet customer needs. Assures advisement given is in keeping with internal processes, industry best practice and meets customer and regulatory requirements.
* Responsible for supporting all technical based process on projects such as: Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), TS (IATF) 16949 and US Government Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS). Ensures all quality reviews, tests, and prototypes are documented.
* Prepares and delivers detailed engineering specifications and data regarding product testing and release to the Manufacturing Department, using 3D design. Coordinates with the Manufacturing Department to resolve assembly, design, and measurement/ specification issues.
* Creates and analyzes the power electronics packaging design for robustness, thermal management and optimal mechanical configuration to support optimal functionality of the end product. Conducts stress analysis using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) with various plastics and metal components. Conducts thermal and flow analysis on electrical components using simulation software. Adjusts the design as required to resolve issues identified in the analysis. Knowledge of the Printed Circuit Board design and fabrication processes a plus.

Education & Experience:

Essential:

* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
* Five to ten years in product development or other engineering related area
* 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred), at a high level of proficiency
* SolidWorks Flow Simulation for CFD and thermal analysis
* Strong MS Office skills
* Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
* Excellent interpersonal skills, planning and organizational abilities are essential

Desirable:

* Electrical Engineering / Power Electronics knowledge
* Knowledge of Automotive Quality Systems
* Experience designing components for the following fabrication processes: Metal Stamping, Plastic Injection Molding, Die Casting and Sand Casting
