Position Specific Description
Support senior archaeologist and other senior staff in matters related to environmental permitting with a focus on archaeology and cultural resources. Review consultant work related to archaeology and paleontology on NextEra development and construction projects, including projects in wind, solar, transmission, and gas infrastructure throughout the US and Canada. Assist with strategy, mitigation and risk management/avoidance on archaeological issues. Help with process development to ensure consistency of cultural resource survey and analysis approaches across all regions. Provide quality assurance reviews and technical assistance during field work and agency reporting as necessary to minimize cost and or potential schedule delays. Support agency and stakeholder interactions regarding cultural resource issues. Facilitate state site file access agreements with state archaeological information centers and support research and analysis of confidential cultural resource information. Support cultural resource dialogue and "early contact" with relevant Indian Tribes. Support tribal cultural awareness education efforts. Ability to travel up to 50% of the time; often on short notice.

Successful candidate will demonstrate:

* Expertise in Cultural Resources Management (historic/prehistoric archaeology, historic structures and engineering, historic landscapes and Traditional Cultural Properties) is the primary need with paleontology expertise a secondary need
* Relevant archaeological field experience
* Thorough understanding of theNational Historic Preservation Act(Section 106) and its implementing regulations (36 CFR 800)
* Experience and understanding of the cultural resource issues in the Midwest, Plains, Great Basin, or Western US.
* Strong written and oral communication skills
* Demonstrated experience using ArcGIS and other ESRI software
* Ability to respectfully consider Indian Tribe/Aboriginal cultural resource preservation perspectives
* Speaking in public forums

* Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA)
* Bachelor's Degree in the field of Anthropology/Archaeology and/or History
Job Overview
This job is responsible for obtaining environmental approvals, licenses and permits for construction and operation of new and existing NextEra, Inc. facilities from Federal, State and Regional agencies.
