FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Music and Art Department at the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) invites highly motivated applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position as Assistant, Associate or full Professor in music with expertise in jazz and popular music starting Fall 2018.

The Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) is an integral part of City University of New York system with the largest college enrollment in the system of over 27,000 students. It is strategically located in downtown Manhattan in close proximity to the artistic communities of Tribeca and SoHo, the dynamic downtown financial district, and the center of New York City government at City Hall. Our students come from the New York City area, and all over the world. An international college, BMCC has students from over 155 countries, who speak a variety of languages.

The Department of Music and Art seeks a candidate in music with an earned doctorate in Jazz and Popular Music, with proven leadership as a director with experience building and promoting a performance ensemble. Primary responsibilities for Music and Art faculty include teaching a wide range of courses in area of expertise as well as capstone courses and historical survey classes in music. Candidates for this position will teach a variety of courses in jazz and popular music, and applied studies on instrument/voice of expertise. Other teaching duties assigned according to the candidate's interests and expertise.

Research and publication are expected for tenure and promotion. Productive creative scholarship expected. Other areas of responsibility include curriculum development, participate in departmental and college-wide activities and committees, such as, grant writing, assessment, faculty development, mentoring student projects, and academic advisement. The qualified candidate must be able to work in either the Day or Evening/Weekend program, as needed by the Department.

QUALIFICATIONS

For Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor:
Ph.D. (Doctor of Musical Arts, Doctor of Music, and Doctor of Education) degree in area(s) of expertise, or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, interest in productive scholarship or creative achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

Preferred experience in the music industry, and three years college and K-12 teaching experience. Experience with instructional technology as asset.
