## Posting Summary:

The Department of Philosophy at the University of Virginia seeks applicants for a Laboratory Specialist position.

The Laboratory Specialist will administer and carry out interdisciplinary collaborations on the cognitive neuroscience and philosophy of mind-wandering. The successful candidate will have two primary responsibilities. First, to assist a philosophy of neuroscience professor in study design, data collection, and data analysis for interdisciplinary collaborations with cognitive neuroscience at the University of Virginia and abroad. The Laboratory Specialist is expected to work with graduate students, postdocs, and professors from other labs, and to be familiar with and/or learn methods from Experimental Philosophy, EEG, Pupillometry, and fMRI. Expertise in philosophical analysis is also a substantial plus. Second, the Laboratory Specialist, in conjunction with the Department Administrative Supervisor, will administer grants, funds, IRB approvals, and perform other administrative details pertaining to these collaborations.

BA or BSc with a Major or Specialist in Philosophy, Psychology or related field (cognitive science, neuroscience, etc.). Minor in Philosophy (if major in Psychology or related field) or Psychology/related field (if major in Philosophy)

Research experience in a cognitive neuroscience laboratory. Experience gained as a student will be considered.

## Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of general laboratory procedures in cognitive neuroscience. Ability to conduct activities and make decisions according to ethical standards. Ability to synthesize information, provide advice, and address needs independently. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Work with senior leaders to accomplish goals. Ability to lead, train, and functionally supervise.

Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication in daily interactions. Proven ability to clearly articulate specific information in philosophy and neuroscience.

## Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of the Philosophy and Cognitive Science of Mind-Wandering. Advanced ability to navigate University databases and systems. Ability to access and present information to University employees, faculty, and senior leaders.
