KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm has grown to become one of Europe's leading technical and engineering universities, as well as a key centre of intellectual talent and innovation. We are Sweden's largest technical research and learning institution and home to students, researchers and faculty from around the world. Our research and education covers a wide area including natural sciences and all branches of engineering, as well as in architecture, industrial management, urban planning, history and philosophy.

Job description

The Doctoral student project will focus on experimental investigations of wide band gap semiconductors, such as GaN and InGaN/GaN quantum wells, and light emitting devices. The optical properties of nitrides will be studied using sophisticated near-field microscopy and ultrafast spectroscopy techniques. Project results will lead to a deeper understanding of carrier dynamics and contribute to the development of highly efficient light emitting devices. The project will include experimental work, modelling and result presentation.

The applicant is expected to hold or to be about to receive an MSc degree in Semiconductor Physics or similar. Experimental (especially in spectroscopy and scanning microscopy techniques) and programming skills are an advantage. We are looking for a strongly motivated person, able to work independently and perform critical thinking and analysis. Good command of English orally and in writing is required to publish results in scientific journals and present them at conferences. The evaluation will be based on how well the applicant fulfils the above-mentioned qualifications.
