Position Description

The Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE) seeks an instructor to teach in a year-long program in child advocacy which prepares students to be effective advocates for children, youth, and families within educational and other systems or at the policy level. The program includes a first-semester seminar on child advocacy, which focuses on teaching advocacy skills through a combination of traditional lectures, case studies, simulations, and guest speakers. In the second semester, the program supports students in internships at advocacy organizations and provides them opportunities to share and discuss their internship experiences, learn about special topics in advocacy, and make a presentation to their peers and invited guests about their projects at the conclusion of the semester.

Basic Qualifications

The ideal candidate may have a background in education, law, social services or other child/adolescent related field, along with a substantial record of excellence in the field of child advocacy.

Additional Qualifications

Experience teaching how to use experiential methods, such as simulation, role-play, coaching, and peer learning is very helpful.
