Position Description

Harvard Medical School (HMS) seeks applications from experienced, innovative science educators to join the Department of Genetics and the Curriculum Fellows Program as a Lecturer in Quantitative Biomedical Sciences. The successful applicant will develop and support the quantitative graduate curriculum at HMS by improving existing quantitative courses, designing and implementing new courses, and developing programs and workshops to fill perceived training gaps. Job responsibilities may include course development, faculty consultation, student evaluation, mentorship, and teaching.

The Quant Lecturer position is well suited to an academically-minded scientist who is passionate about graduate biomedical education and seeks to influence the training outcomes of Harvard Medical School's PhD students. The Quant Lecturer will work within the HMS Curriculum Fellows Program, a science education community that supports continuous improvement of graduate biomedical training and coursework across the HMS Program in Graduate Education (PGE). Collaborations that span the PGE are encouraged and opportunities may exist to design and conduct discipline-based educational research (DBER) to determine whether specific approaches result in improved student outcomes.

Appointment is at the rank of Lecturer, a non-tenure track faculty appointment, and is renewable for up to three years. Suitable candidates will have a PhD in a relevant field (e.g., biology, computational biology, computer science, biomedical informatics), as well as some postdoctoral research or teaching experience and significant experience teaching graduate or undergraduate students. Candidates must also have demonstrated expertise in the application of quantitative and statistical analyses to biomedical data-preferably with R, although Python, MATLAB or other languages will also be considered.
