Position Description

The Broad Institute seeks an organized, enthusiastic Project Coordinator to provide operational and administrative support to a range of malaria research projects and global health activities within the malaria group at the Broad Institute and Harvard Chan School of Public Health. The position is within the research program of Professor Dyann Wirth and will report to the Associate Director of Malaria and Viral Genomics. The post holder will be responsible for management support of grants, contracts, and budgets; research ethics compliance; coordination of internal group meetings, activities, and communications; and supporting laboratory operations and research activities within the group and with international collaborators. A key role of this post is supporting our collaborative research activities in Senegal, by ensuring strong communication, facilitating travel and shipments, managing budgets, and tracking deliverables.

The ideal candidate knows how to get things done. This includes having excellent organizational and time management skills, flexibility, and a willingness to work in a dynamic and fast paced environment. The candidate will be detail-oriented, able to juggle multiple tasks and priorities, and to work proactively and independently. Ideally the candidate will have a strong appreciation of the academic research environment and related administrative processes, and prior project coordination experience.

The Wirth lab is based at both the Broad Institute in Cambridge and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in Boston (approx 4 miles apart), the candidate would be expected to work flexibly between these sites. This role may be of interest to recent MSc or MPH graduates with an interest in project management, research administration, and/or global health.

• Work with team members, collaborators, administrators to support research activities
• Review, monitor and track progress towards completion of projects; identify bottlenecks and propose solutions.
• Coordinate exchange of materials and information between collaborating institutions.
• Ensure ethical compliance of research activities both at Harvard and at the Broad Institute: prepare study protocols for Institutional Review Boards, material transfer agreements and data access agreements, and other required documentation.
• Independently prepare scientific reports, briefs and project updates. This requires liaising with stakeholders and funders.
• Track grant expenditures with financial administrators.
• Contribute to the scientific administration and information management, this includes meeting facilitation, organization and logistics for strategic and scientific activities.
• Coordinate onboarding and training of visiting scientists and summer research trainees at local and international sites.
• Strong work ethic and willingness to take ownership for wide-ranging responsibilities.
• Undertake other responsibilities as required.

Basic Qualifications

• PhD, MSc of MPH preferred
• 3-4 years experience relevant experience in an academic or research setting preferred. Prior experience in malaria research is a plus.
• Experience preparing grant reports and budgets
• Experience in working across a range of academic research administrative structures, including HR, finance, grants and contracts
• Ability to work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary group including biologists, data analysts, computer scientists and laboratory staff, developing effective working relationships to deliver outstanding results.
• Ability to work independently and use good judgment in high-pressure situations and short timelines.
• Excellent personal organizational skills, including time management, and ability to meet deadlines and respond to shifting priorities.
• Strong people management skills/experience and proven ability to create an environment, which encourages team-working and motivates a team across various areas.
• Excellent oral, written, interpersonal and organizational skills required.
