The School of Engineering and the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering & Computer Science are seeking to appoint an IT Technician to help maintain and develop a small number of high profile virtual engineering simulation facilities across the Faculty of Science and Engineering. Recent substantial grant awards mean that an opportunity has arisen to join the aerospace- and autonomous systems-focussed teams at the University's Virtual Engineering Simulation Laboratory located at STFC Daresbury and the Flight Simulation Laboratory at the City Centre Campus. Aerospace Engineering within the School is benefitting from an increase in staff and a substantial investment of £1.5 million in facilities and research equipment and this role represents a key part of that strategy. You should have experience at developing software solutions for both Windows and Linux operating systems, ideally in C/C++, but other languages/experience will be considered. Expertise in one or more of Java, wide area network management/communication and the DIS/HLA protocol would be beneficial. The nature of the role means that a high degree of flexibility will be required to meet the needs of different but complementary facilities. You will be a crucial element to help maintain two laboratories to be state-of-the-art and to enable them to deliver cutting edge research outcomes as well as significant industrial impact. You should be qualified to BTEC Higher level or equivalent in a relevant subject. The post is available until 30 September 2020.
