**Description:**

Pratt and Whitney, a subsidiary of UTC, is a world leader in the design, manufacture and support of gas turbine engines for commercial and military aircrafts. The Design for Sustainability organization within Systems Engineering is responsible for identifying, managing and reducing hazardous material use in gas turbine engines. Design for Sustainability Job Description Assist Design for Sustainability to ensure product regulatory compliance and with customer Hazardous Materials Management requirements. The position will include interaction with engineering as well as other departments improving and maintaining our integrated Engineering, Supply Chain and Aftermarket IT solutions to ensure regulatory and customer contract compliance. Potential activities include: • Research on chemical usage in hardware design, maintenance, repair and overhaul operations • Data mining and manipulation in Excel and internal databases for hazardous materials' information, including regulatory status and chemical reporting. • Assisting in improving database structure, interactions and reporting schema. • Interaction with designers, supply chain and business unit operations to ensure new processes addresses business needs.

**Qualification:** • This posting is for a co-op position starting in January 2019 and extends through August 2019. • Must be available to work 40 hours a week, first shift, Monday-Friday • Proficient with Microsoft Office • Interest, experience or coursework in the area of environmental sustainability, manufacturing, materials properties / processing / coating / surface treatment for aerospace applications, chemistry or macros is desirable • Ability to take direction, manage daily tasks and come back with solid results / solutions • Strong interpersonal and communications skills (written & verbal), willing to reach out to subject matter experts for help Due to federal regulation or contracting requirements, this position is only available to U.S. persons. All U.S. positions require a background check, which may include a drug screen

**Education:** • Candidates should be pursuing a bachelors or masters degree in environmental, chemical, materials, environmental or mechanical engineering • Overall GPA of 3.0 or higher from an accredited university and minimum of 30 credit hours of college coursework completed
