Duties and Responsibilities

Loyola University Chicago (LUC), College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Theology invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor in Systematic Theology (Roman Catholic) beginning in the academic year 2019-20. The department serves the university's undergraduate core curriculum and offers undergraduate majors and minors in Theology and Religious Studies. The department also offers an M.A. in Biblical Languages and Literature, Christian Ethics, and Theological Studies, and Ph.D. concentrations in New Testament/Early Christianity, Ethics, and Theology. Ideal candidates should be theologians with a specific expertise in contemporary systematic theology and the Roman Catholic theological tradition with a strong historical and/or philosophical training. Particular areas of expertise should include an emphasis on feminist theologies and might also include one of the following, among others: the study of gender and race, theology and culture, theology and politics, eco-theology, and theology and science / technology.

Candidates should be prepared to teach undergraduate courses such as Introduction to Christian Theology or the History of Christian Thought (Reformation to Modern Periods) at both the undergraduate and graduate level; and they should be prepared to teach a variety of other graduate and undergraduate courses that serve the department's diverse multi-cultural and multi-religious student body as well as the Jesuit students in the First Studies program. In addition, candidates for the position must demonstrate a record of substantial and active scholarship; an ability to serve as a public spokesperson on issues of contemporary concern in Roman Catholicism; and overall excellence in teaching and student mentorship. Special attention will also be given to candidates with research interests that are in conversation with Christian Ethics.
