Job Purpose

As part of this transforming organisation, Information Services (IS) are seeking to invest in a Senior PHP Developer who will act as a technical design authority for PHP development across a portfolio of application and software projects. You will be a subject matter expert in PHP development/implementation and act as a keen agile advocate. You will help make sure projects are delivered within a coherent architecture to support delivery of the University's digital strategy.

Job Responsibilities

As an experienced and established Senior PHP Developer you will have the opportunity to work across a range of web-based applications to help drive forward and deliver new solutions that are fit for purpose and provide innovation and a digitally enhanced service to this global community.

You are a deep technical expert with a track record of delivering solutions to high quality standards. As the subject matter expert and technical design authority within your team, you will work with other Developers, Project Managers and Business Analysts and the wider IT Department. As part of the Application Development team, you will help promote software development best practice, in line with agile methodologies.

Core Skills
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent qualification/experience
  • Proven experience of the software development lifecycle working in a large development environment with a range of technologies
  • Understanding and appreciation for agile methodologies
  • An extensive background in, and a deep architectural understanding of PHP development
  • Experience with Laravel/Symfony or Zend frameworks would be ideal
  • Knowledge of front end technologies such as JavaScript/CSS/SQL advantageous
  • Familiarity with MS Azure Cloud technologies and experience of SOA beneficial
  • Good working knowledge of Docker and container orchestration

  • You will be a self-motivated and dynamic individual who is able to be adaptable, flexible and adjust to new situations and environments
  • Strong inter-personal and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to engage others through complex problem solving

This is a full time, permanent position. A formal interviews will be held week commencing 25 March 2019.
