    UWMC has an outstanding opportunity for a Part-Time 32 hrs/week, Day Shift, CARDIAC SONOGRAPHER 1 or CARDIAC SONOGRAPHER 2 at our Montlake Clinic. This individual performs and analyzes comprehensive complex diagnostic cardiac ultrasound procedures such as Transthoracic Echo (TTE), Dobutamine Stress Echo (DSE), Treadmill Echo (TME), and assists physicians with Transesophageal Echo (TEE) procedures on patients referred for evaluation of suspected or known heart disease, post-operative evaluation of surgical therapy, or placement of cardiac prosthetic devices.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Although primary work assignment will be in Edmonds, this individual will also be assigned to work at our Montlake site as needed
  • Participates in the Cardiac Sonographer On-Call rotation at the main Montlake Echo Lab site
  • Performs and analyzes diagnostic cardiac ultrasound examinations on adults and adolescents
  • Performs clinical and approved research Transthoracic Echocardiography examinations on adult, adolescent, and critically ill patients either at the bedside or within the department
  • Performs echo cardiographic studies in the cath lab and assists team with pericardiocentesis, TAVR placement, EtOH ablations, echo guided biopsies and other procedures.
  • Performs echo cardiographic studies on patients with advanced heart failure therapies, including LVAD, impella and ECMO
  • Reviews patient medical records, physician referral diagnosis and patients previous exam data including final reports and images prior to beginning procedure
  • Prepares patient for examination by explaining entire procedure and performing a limited physical assessment of blood pressure and auscultation
  • Acquires any additional pertinent patient history
  • Optimizes and alters Echo and Doppler examinations by using appropriate procedure and technique to obtain anatomy and pathophysiology data relative to patients cardiac disorder(s)
  • Performs quality dependent and independent imaging before, during, and after Dobutamine Stress Echo procedures
  • Performs quality dependent and independent imaging before, during, and after Treadmill Stress Echo procedures
  • Assists the attending physician with transesophageal echocardiography. Determines initial working diagnosis by analyzing data using appropriate mathematical formulas and offline computer analysis to define accurate cardiac anatomy, physiology, pathology and hemodynamics
  • Prepares the patients initial diagnostic report: enters analyzed exam data and findings into the Xcelera PACS program, prepares documentation for Echo attending review
  • Cleans exam room, disinfects ultrasound equipment, prepares room and equipment for next patient or procedure
  • Provides hands on training of echo procedures to attending physicians, cardiology fellows, cardiac anesthesiology and surgery fellows, and cardiac ultrasound interns
  • Attends at least 75% of required staff meetings annually and/or reads and verifies all staff meeting minutes
  • Contributes to and assists with documentation of information to support Echo Lab and UW Hospitals CQI processes
  • Performs other related duties as assigned



    • REQUIREMENTS:
    Current Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) certification through American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)
    OR
    Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) certification through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
    OR
    Registry eligible; registry must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
    OR
    Equivalent education/experience.
