The Collaborative Health Studies Coordinating Center (CHSCC) is a non-profit, academic organization with over 20 years of experience running multi-site epidemiologic studies and clinical trials. Our center is a collaborative effort involving faculty, staff, and students from the Departments of Biostatistics and Epidemiology at the University of Washington. Our team of programmers, biostatisticians, epidemiologists and project managers provides expertise in study design, data collection and management, and statistical analysis. The CHSCC mission is to support studies that further scientific inquiry in areas that will ultimately impact public health. We also support the next generation of researchers by offering assistantships to current students and postdoctoral fellowships to recent graduates.

The CHSCC seeks a full-time CHSCC Research Coordinator for the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis Data Coordinating Center. The research coordinator is integral to effective study communications and clinical operations tasks, including assembling and formatting reports and study documents, tracking study progress, and distributing field center materials. The position requires clear communication with CHSCC staff and MESA Investigators, careful attention to detail and accuracy, strong organization skills, and the ability to juggle multiple competing priorities.

This research position is key to the success of MESA, an NHLBI-funded study of cardiovascular disease that started in 2000 that has contributed over 1,900 scientific publications to date. The CHSCC in the Department of Biostatistics is high visibility in the research community at both the local and national levels and enjoys an excellent reputation as an outstanding center for research design and biostatistical analysis. The high quality of the CHSCCs work enhances the Universitys research environment and, in turn, helps attract funding for further research studies. This active research environment attracts world-class faculty and students to the University and provides excellent training opportunities.

Job Duties:

  • Assist Clinical Operations Director with editing and formatting study documents, including manuals of operations, participant results letters, Steering Committee reports, and data collection forms. Provide meticulous tracking/version control for study-related documents. (15%)
  • Design and track the production and distribution of participant results letters.
  • Assist with scheduling and summarizing meetings and ensure timely resolution of action items.
  • Manage website content, committee rosters, and study-wide calendar. (10%)
  • Fulfill orders from clinic sites for study-related materials. (5%)
  • Track Data Coordinating Center and clinic regulatory compliance, including proper consent forms and IRB approvals. (5%)
  • Work with vendors to print study materials and provide document translations.
  • Assist with additional clinical operations tasks as needs arise.

    Required Experience:
    4-year college degree or equivalent experience working in a research environment.
    Proven success organizing a collaborative research team. Meticulous organizational skills and proven ability to multi-task and work independently and effectively in large, complex, multi-site, cross-functional teams.
    Successful implementation of a project management application to track study tasks and timeline, and reporting progress (Smartsheet, Microsoft Project, etc.).
    Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to manage relationships and interact with a wide-range of researchers and clinic staff.
    Demonstrated problem-solving skills and attention to detail while working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
    Advanced Microsoft Word skills, including complex formatting and version control of study documents and mail-merge to generate personalized documents.

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

    Desired Experience:
    Management of website content using Drupal or other web content management systems.
    Skilled Microsoft Publisher user.
    Previous experience in the administration and coordination of a large epidemiological cohort study
