This position is within the Ophthalmology team, part of the Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED) organization.
We are looking for a Senior Discovery Scientist to contribute to our ongoing research and development.
Located in Basel, we focus on the discovery of therapeutic approaches for eye diseases such as age related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and dry eye along with complications of those diseases (i.e. fibrosis, vascular defects, ischemia, fibrosis, inflammation, and neurodegeneration). We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced scientist to develop novel drugs for ocular diseases.
Your main responsibilities are the following:
- Independent project management of new drug targets from project initiation to clinical trials
- Plan, organize and analyze experiments of research projects
- Communicate scientific progress through internal meetings and publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- Setting strategy and prioritize projects for a disease area
- Leading scientists and associates assigned to the projects
- Initiating and leading external collaborations to bolster internal efforts

- You hold a PhD and have conducted research in an ophthalmology related field with at least 5 yrs research after completing your PhD
- You are a team player, and you foster a collaborative spirit with other scientists and colleagues.
- Fluent in English, you have strong presentation and communication skills and are used to lead presentations in front of an audience
- Independent project management
- You have demonstrated independent research and leadership of a team
- A strong publication record with articles in high-impact journals and a track-record of external funding
- Assistant/Associate Professor or experience in pharmaceutical industry are clear assets
