Abstract

The paper presents a procedure for automatic extraction of pure and altered notes from aalap portion of kheyal rendering for four chosen ragas sung by expert musicians and scholars. The basic problem in automatic extraction of notes is the detection of the tonic (Sa) used in the song. This paper presents an algorithm for tonic detection using error analysis. Sound signals from the song is recorded and stored in the PC. If required, noise reduction is done on the recorded signal. Pitch tracking is done for the sound signal using phase-space analysis. The pitch profile is then smoothed to remove extraneous pitch values. The steady states in the pitch contour are then detected and averages thereon are obtained. 'Sa' Value is then used for finding the notes used in the raga, from the steady pitch states. The result of the automatic extraction of the notes are presented in the tabular form.
