Abstract

Aerial videography is a new, cost-effective and efficient way of collecting high-resolution imagery. It is suitable for applications such as pipeline or road surveys, digital map updates, high-resolution mapping for environmental or agricultural inventories as well as real-time monitoring during floods or forest fires. Typical video-derived imagery captured in the optical or thermal bands has a ground resolution of 30 cm or above. Since video is captured at 25 frames per second, users have a wide variety of frames to choose from. This gives a great deal of flexibility, and enables the user to target features of interest and capture a dynamic record of the landscape.
