Abstract

This article examines the use of laboratory tests for managing mechanical ventilation. Blood gas analysis is a common test widely used for this purpose, and this is evaluated in detail. Other tests, however, provide valuable insight into the management of patients receiving mechanical ventilation. These include serum electrolytes, thyroid function tests, and adrenal function tests. © 2007 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
