Abstract

Parasitic lice were collected and identified from 123 bird taxa and six mammal species from the Faroe Islands. The result is a list of 215 species and subspecies of lice (including nine louse records identified at the generic level only). As many as 171 of those species and subspecies (79.5%) are new louse records for the Faroe Islands. A brief history of previous louse records from the islands is provided. A list of the host-louse associations found in the Faroe Islands is also given. The mite Myialges (Myialges) ancistronae Fain, 1965 is recorded from a female Ancistrona vagelli collected on a Fulmar
