Abstract

CLAREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 2, 1998--Monday, the Tomas Rivera Policy Institute (TRPI) released the results from its latest study, "A Meta-Analysis of the Effectiveness of Bilingual Education," during a news conference/community briefing held in downtown Los Angeles. TRPI, in collaboration with the Public Policy Clinic of the University of Texas' Government department, and Harvard University's program on Education Policy and Governance, has conducted an objective, systematic, statistical assessment measuring the effectiveness of bilingual-education programs. TRPI's analysis shows that students with limited English proficiency (LEP) who have received bilingual instruction perform significantly better on English-language standardized tests than similar children taught in English-only programs.
