Abstract

The data so far available on the South-eastern Pacific spp of Macrura Scyllaridea are related to the taxonomy and biology of the adults. During cruise 13 of the USA R/V 'A.Bruun' (Jan 1966), 7 phyllosome larvae were collected off Chile with an Isaacs-Kidd midwater trawl. Descriptions and figures are given for these specimens, which belong to 3 different spp. Their developmental stages were determined by comparisons with other spp of the same gen previously described for other geographical regions. On the basis of the known distribution of the Scyllaridea spp of Chilean waters, as well as previous descriptions of other spp of the same gen, the studied larvae were reported as probably belonging to jasus frontalis (H.Milne-Edwards, 1837), Projasus parkeri (Stebbing, 1902) or Palinurus sp, and Scyllarus delfini (Bouvier, 1909).The phyllosoma of Scyllarus delfini as well as the later stage (XIII A) of Jasus frontalis were found in deep waters. (from 60 to 2,500 m).
