Abstract

This document describes the observed behavior of the syslogprotocol. This protocol has been used for the transmission of eventnotification messages across networks for many years. While thisprotocol was originally developed on the University of CaliforniaBerkeley Software Distribution (BSD) TCP/IP system implementations, itsvalue to operations and management has led it to be ported to many otheroperating systems as well as being embedded into many other networkeddevices. This document is a product of the Security Issues in NetworkEvent Logging Working Group of the IETF.
