Abstract

This paper presents the results of a verification of the various numerical weather prediction models available to the forecaster in the Tasmanian Regional Office. This verification scheme is an attempt to produce a comparison of the numerical models to which forecasters can relate more directly to their work than the skill scores currently produced by the National Meteorological Centre. During the period covered, 27 November 1991 to 31 May 1993, the European Community model was found to be superior for most of the variables considered. It is concluded that this scheme provides a useful alternative method of comparing model performance.
