Abstract

Results of a pollination compatibility trial on five nashi (Asian pear) cultivars, Hosui, Kosui, Nijisseiki, Shinseiki, and Shinsui; and ‘Louise bonne de Jersey’ pear are reported. None of the five nashi cultivars were self compatible except, to a minor degree, ‘Nijisseiki’ and ‘Kosui’. All nashi cultivar pairs were cross compatible except ‘Kosui’ and ‘Shinsui’. Compatibility of the crosses were not significantly different from the reciprocal crosses. ‘Louise bonne de Jersey’ pear pollen was compatible with all nashi cultivars. © Crown 1989.
