This article analyzes the politicization of workers which was proposed and generated by Iquique's Mancomunal de Obreros in the context of both the Nitrate social movement and Chile's cuestión social. The originality of this resides especially in the relationship that was established between the social and the political while at the same time establishing a relationship between the social base and the political party structure. Given the present lack of legitimacy faced by political parties, this intense experience of politicization generated by the Mancomunal de Obreros movement is particularly interesting.
