Abstract
This paper presents the design, development and implementation of an integrated monitoring and automated irrigation system based on Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to optimize water use and improve agricultural productivity in the region of Arequipa, Peru. The system is composed of sensor nodes distributed in the field, a central control node, and a web-accessible user interface. Using soil sensors and actuators, the system adjusts irrigation based on real-time data on soil conditions. The pilot implementation showed a reduction in water consumption of up to 16% and an 18% increase in potato crop yields, demonstrating the feasibility and effectiveness of the system in real conditions. This approach promotes more sustainable and efficient agriculture, offering important lessons for the expansion of IoT technology in agricultural resource management.
