Abstract

This book is intended as a comprehensive introduction to the subject at an undergraduate/postgraduate level. It concentrates on the description of microfossils as once-living organisms. All the major groups of microfossils are described in 15 separate chapters. In each one description of the living organism, its life history and ecology precede discussion of their classification, general history of the group and their geological application. The features of the different groups are illustrated with numerous clear, labelled line drawings. Each chapter ends with suggestions for further reading and hints for collection and study. An appendix on reconnaissance methods concentrates on the simple, safer and cheaper methods of sample collection, preparation, sorting and concentration. There is a bibliography and a systematic and general index. -I.McTaggart
