Abstract

The deformation behavior of the coherent β′′′ phase in a Mg-Nd alloy and β′ phase in a Mg-Y alloy were determined by examining the aged microstructures both before and after deformation using high angle annular dark field scanning transmission electron microscopy. Both phases were sheared by dislocations with basal slip in Mg-Nd and basal and non-basal or slip in Mg-Y.
