Ferromagnetic carriers with an absorbed layer of organophosphorus extractants are being evaluated for application in the separation and the recovery of low concentrations of actinides from nuclear waste solutions. The extractant-absorbed particles were characterized by gamma and liquid scintillation counting, scanning electron microscopy, and other physical measurements. The application of the process to Department of Energy remediation efforts is discussed.
