The literature of the past year dealing with the radiologic aspects of colonic disease is extensive. In particular, substantial numbers of papers continue to be published concerning radiologic findings on the barium enema examination and the efficacy of the barium enema. Increasing attention is also being devoted to the problem of effective and economical diagnosis of colonic adenomas and carcinomas in an attempt to decrease the continuing high mortality from carcinoma of the colon. The role of imaging in the colon, which includes scintigraphy, ultrasonography, CT, and MR imaging, has also been further defined.
