Abstract

Journal of Phipps, the commander of the expedition of the ships Racehorse and Carcass towards the North Pole. The ships sailed north of Spitzbergen Island but were prevented by fields of ice from advancing further. The Appendix contains observations made in the course of the voyage and descriptions of scientific instruments used on the voyage.
