Abstract

This paper describes the development of a joint which is capable of transferring the full bending strength of one timber member to another. Nail steel side plates provide an economical means of connecting timber members so that they may utilize their full bending strength. The joint is simple and may be applied in the field using unskilled labor. The high rigidity of the joint and simplicity of assembly make it possible for timber to compete with other materials in a wider range of structures.
